knitting loom for KIDS

My daughter and I made a great craft the other day, a circular knitting loom.
Here is the finished product, made with simple items you too probably have around the house. we have used this and it is great fun, my daughter is still a bit young but it gives her a project to do while I am working on my crochet or knitting. Here is what you need to make your own knitting loom.
Materials:
small coffee can made with cardboard center
14 white long finishing nails
packing tape / duct tape
glue gun and glue
utility knife
covering material ( I used some old green burlap er had  lying around)
  • remove the top of the can and cut away the bottom leaving you with a cylinder
  • mark around the finished top end with a felt your placement for 2 finishing nails.  I used 7 stations for a loose knit for scarfs, but if you want a tighter knit by all means use more stations.
  • using the hot glue gun put a big dollop of glue near the top edge and about 1 inch down to place your pair of nails in once nails are placed with in the glue dollop cover the glued area and nails again for a secure hold. repeat this step for all you stations around the top of your can.
  • once you glue is dry fasten around the entire neck of the can to fully secure your glued area
  • cover the entire outside of the cylinder with your covering material using the glue gun.
  • cut away excess material and you have a knitting loom.
